12th Annual CSUSM Student Media Festival, May 12

The 12th Annual CSUSM Student Media Festival brings together hundreds of students, families, faculty, community members and professional mediamakers in a powerful celebration of learning and fun.

The event is Friday, May 12 in Arts 111. Reception and refreshments are at 6 p.m., and the program begins promptly at 7 p.m. The awards ceremony for outstanding student media projects follow the program.

The Cal State University San Marcos Student Media Festival has become one of the most anticipated evenings on campus. With over 70 entries and approximately 15 official selections, this competitive, juried student festival is a celebration of creative work in film, video and digital media by students across the university. The jury consists of alumni, teachers, community leaders and members of the media. Hosted by students and student musicians, the evening presents, celebrates, publicizes, shares and archives the innovative media projects being produced by the many disciplines at Cal State San Marcos.

Awards are given to the most accomplished and innovative student entries, and are presented by members from across our campus community, including Film Studies, the CHABSS Dean’s Office, IITS, Readiness and Success Services, faculty and alums. The awards ceremony concludes with the coveted Audience Award, voted on by you, the people! Prizes have included cash awards, as well as software, hardware and gift certificates. Being selected for the festival lets students know that their faculty, peers and professionals value their voices and encourage them to continue to make media whether in the industry, art world or in their communities.

All CSUSM student work, from every university department, can be submitted for jury review and the potential for Official Selection and awards. For entry information, please visit: http://www.csusm.edu/sofa/studentwork/mediafest/index.html

The event is free and open to the public. In addition to the screening of the student films and videos, it includes a catered reception and intermission with live music by our CSUSM students during which audiences can connect with our student mediamakers. Come ready for the red carpet in your most glamorous garb!

Supported by the Instructionally Related Activities Fee, Co-curricular funds, Film Studies, CHABSS Dean’s Office, ITTS and the School of Arts.
