Arts & Lectures Calls for Proposals

Written by Ashley Johnson, '13Writing Intern for the Office of CommunicationsCommitted to bringing diverse, eye-opening and informative events to campus, the Arts & Lectures series invites students, faculty and staff, and the community to propose events, speakers, art exhibits, film screenings or performances for the upcoming 2013-2014 season.Since its start as a grassroots effort on the campus in the early 90s, Arts & Lectures has become an integral part of campus life. In 2004 the program became committee driven and curated through a call for proposals, giving the campus community and the broader community the opportunity to recommend diverse and engaging events.  “Arts and Lectures is committed to enhanced learning and contributes to campus culture by presenting a dynamic series of events,” said Professor Karen Schaffman, chair of the Arts and Lectures advisory committee. “The excellence of the program is dependent upon the community, who contributes proposals annually in the spring.” Arts & Lectures hosts over 30 curriculum-linked events each year, featuring a myriad of lectures ranging from renowned guest speakers, film screenings, visual art talks, dance and theatre performances, music concerts, scientific discussions, book readings and more. The series continues to provide the campus with alternative perspectives on culture and academia, creating an environment for students and the community to engage in artistic activities that have the potential to inspire the mind.Students are highly encouraged to have proposals cosigned by a faculty advisor, student organization or university entity on the submission form. Those from off-campus are encouraged to link themselves with a faculty member or campus department or program as well. Submissions for the 2013-2014 season of Arts & Lectures are due by April 12, 2013. For more information and to propose an event, visit Arts & Lectures.
