CSU San Marcos Men's & Women's Soccer Qualify for Post-Season

CSU San Marcos Men's & Women's Soccer Qualify for Post-SeasonThe CSUSM men's and women's soccer teams have both qualified for the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Conference Championships. Both teams will be packing their bags for the Rose Mofford Soccer Complex in Phoenix, where they'll compete against fellow A.I.I. universities for a spot in the NAIA National Championships. For Head Coach Ron Pulvers' Cougar men, it's the first post-season berth in the program's four-year history.  After starting the season 1-3, the squad has turned it around by winning eight of its final eleven games for a 9-5-1 record.  The senior-heavy squad features a staunch defense and an offense spearheaded by leading goal scorer Brandon Zuniga. The third-seeded CSUSM men will begin play at the A.I.I. Tournament on Wednesday, Nov. 11, against sixth-seeded Embry-Riddle.  Should the Cougars advance in the six-team, single-elimination tournament, they would play in the semi-finals the following day, hoping to reach the finals on Saturday, Nov. 14.For Coach Pulvers' Cougar women, it's the squad's second straight post-season trip.  CSUSM advanced all the way to the second round of the NAIA National Championships in 2008, after winning the A.I.I. Tournament and defeating Benedictine University (KS) in the National Championship Opening Round.  After a lackluster 3-4-3 start, the team is now playing its best soccer of the season, winning five of its last six games to finish 8-4-4.Playing in the four-team A.I.I. Tournament, the third-seeded CSUSM women will take on second-seeded Simon Fraser in the semifinals on Friday, Nov. 13.  A win there would advance the Cougars to the finals on Saturday, Nov. 14.
