CSUSM Art Gallery to Exhibit "Of This World"

“Vicki” is one of the paintings on display as part of the CSUSM Art Gallery’s exhibition of Artist Vicki Walsh’s work, called “Of This World,” now through Sept. 14.The California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) Art Gallery is pleased to showcase “Of This World,” a series of oil paintings created by local artist Vicki Walsh. The exhibit, running now through Sept. 14, features large scale portraits of important people who have touched her life. By breaking down the face and amplifying minute details found on the skin's surface, Walsh makes room for the viewer to contemplate what lies underneath.Academically trained as a painter and illustrator, Walsh's fifteen-year experience as a forensic medical illustrator provides her a strong understanding for how to analyze and visually interpret the figure with exquisite detail. Her in-depth process involves hundreds of transparent layers of oil glaze that achieve subtle tonalities of color. In her conceptual paintings, Walsh is concerned with generating concepts that reflect her strong aesthetic instincts and interest in seeking a deeper truth. The CSUSM Art Gallery, located at 1080 W. San Marcos Blvd., offers free admission to the public and is open every Friday and Saturday evenings from 5 to 8 p.m. A reception and meet-the-artist event will be held on Sunday, Sept. 1 from 1 to 5 p.m. during the Sunday Art Walk at Old California Restaurant Row.For more information, contact Marilyn Huerta at 760-750-8889.What: “Of This World” by Vicki Walsh at the CSUSM Art GalleryWhen: Friday and Saturday evenings from 5 to 8 p.m., Meet the Artist event on Sunday, Sept. 1 from 1 to 5 p.m. during the Sunday Art Walk.Where: CSUSM Art Gallery, Old California Restaurant Row, 1080 W.
