CSUSM Celebrates Memorial Day

CSUSM Celebrates Memorial DayIn traditional observance of Memorial Day, a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation's service, Cal State San Marcos will hold a celebration on Tuesday, May 4, from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. in Tukwut Courtyard "to honor all who served."  The ceremony will include a presentation of the National Ensign and service colors and playing of the National Anthem.  Student Veterans Organization President Nicholas Wagner will introduce CSUSM President Karen Haynes and guest speaker Colonel Nicholas F. Marano, followed by the playing of Taps.  At conclusion light snacks and refreshments will be served.Since the opening of the Veterans Center in fall of 2008, some major accomplishments include increased awareness on campus of veterans/active duty/dependents, monthly on-campus visits by a Veteran Affairs representative, and  providing a space for veterans to gather on campus with others — which many times has eased the transition for veterans recently discharged from the military.  Currently, 884 CSUSM students self-identify as active duty personnel, veterans, or their dependents. For more information on the Veterans Center, visit their website at www.csusm.edu/enroll/veterans.html or email mveterans@csusm.edu.
