CSUSM Students Score Big at CSU's Annual Research CompetitionThree Cal State San Marcos students brought home top awards at the 23rd annual California State University Student Research Competition on May 1 and 2 at California State University, Los Angeles.This system-wide competition showcases excellent research conducted by California State University (CSU) undergraduate and graduate students in the full range of academic programs offered by the CSU. Student participants make oral presentations before juries of professional experts from major corporations, foundations, public agencies, and colleges and universities in California.The competition is held to promote excellence in undergraduate and graduate scholarly research and creative activity by recognizing outstanding student accomplishments throughout the 23 campuses of the California State University.The Cal State San Marcos awardees and their project titles are:Shane Allen (psychology), first place, The Involvement of the Kappa Receptor in the Effects of WxycodoneEvelyn Mercado (psychology), second place, Behavioral Interaction of Drugs of Abuse: Effects of Ketamine and Morphine InteractionsNichole Rushfield (kinesiology), first place, Effect of Static Stretching on the Force Production of the Quadriceps MuscleThe students were judged on the clarity of the purpose, the value of the research, the appropriateness of their methodology, their interpretation of results, the organization of their presentation, and their ability to articulate and present the material and to answer questions.
