Cal State San Marcos was lit up in lights for the 2013 Annual Gala, “Mad About CSUSM”. Attended by 300 guests, the event raised $95,000 for student scholarships, innovative research, student programming and faculty development.California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) President Karen Haynes and the CSUSM Foundation Board thank guests and sponsors of the 2013 “Mad About CSUSM” gala which netted $95,000. The event, emceed by Channel 8 News Anchorwoman Barbara-Lee Edwards, on Saturday, Jun. 9, primarily benefited student scholarships as well as innovative research, student programming and the professional development of faculty.Featuring a 60s theme based on the popular AMC series Mad Men, Kellogg Plaza was bedecked with a black and white checkered dance floor while buildings were lit up in lights. Festive tables were draped with red satin tablecloths with lush white flowers in a martini glass shaped vase. The nearly 300 guests enjoyed posing in a photo booth inspired by Don Draper’s office while the band “The HEROES” played hits.  "We are as passionate about providing meaningful experiences for our students as ad men are about delivering the perfect pitch,” said Haynes in her keynote speech, noting the recent launch of the California State University Institute for Palliative Care at CSUSM, the grand opening of new student housing last fall and a new partnership with Kaiser to offer online nursing degree prerequisites to their employees.“Across the board, from our faculty to our students and staff, CSUSM has the talent, the leadership, the capacity and the determination to persist in being the public university that others look to for how to do things differently, for how to adapt and stay ahead of change. We are growing in every way, each day, and though the characters on Mad Men may have bigger egos, our stature is just as notable.”Highlights of the night included a silent and live auction, an inspirational video showcasing three student scholarship recipients and a live “Raise the Paddle for Scholarships” auction.View the gala photo album on Flickr...
