CSUSM Welcomes Back 11,000 Students for Fall Semester

The first day of fall semester is Monday, Aug. 26 for the more than 11,000 students expected to enroll at California State University San Marcos (CSUSM). This is the first time in institutional history that enrollment has broken the 11,000 mark, an increase from 10,600 students last year. Enrollment includes 2,272 new freshmen and 1,724 new transfer students.Other new additions and changes for the fall semester include:New Faculty, New Degree ProgramThe University also welcomes seven new faculty members to teaching positions across the campus and is launching a brand new Master’s in Social Work (MSW). The MSW program is designed to develop culturally-competent, ethical and effective professionals for direct social work practice with diverse populations, such as those found in the San Diego County region. The MSW program will prepare students for direct practice in public, private and nonprofit agencies and organizations in social services, child welfare services, human services, healthcare and mental health settings.New Student HousingThe second phase of The QUAD, affiliated student housing, officially opens its doors to 308 new residents on move-in day, Friday, Aug. 23.  New features include a game cave, a fitness center, classroom space and two penthouse suites with panoramic views of the city. The QUAD is the first development in North City, a cosmopolitan center that will blend residential, retail and commercial space to create a college town around an urban square. With the latest addition of The QUAD, the total number of students living in CSUSM housing now stands at just over 1,200.On-going ConstructionConstruction continues on the new student union. The new four-story, 89,283 square foot building will be located near the center of campus adjacent to Cesar Chavez Circle with the fourth floor entrance opening onto Kellogg Plaza. Construction is scheduled to be completed in spring 2014.Construction is also on-going for the University’s new Student Health and Counseling Services building. The new 20,000-square-foot, two-story building will be located adjacent to Parking Structure One and across the street from the University Student Union, on the corner of Campus Way and Campus View Drive.
