Enrollment at CSUSM Reaches Record High

Entering into its 21st academic year, CSUSM announces that it has reached a significant milestone, exceeding the 10,000-mark for student headcount enrollment for the first time. This fall, a record 10,276 students are enrolled at Cal State San Marcos, up 5.7 percent from 2010.This year’s gain marks the continued and consistent growth in the student population, which began with 448 students when CSUSM first became part of the California State University system just two decades ago. With its recent enrollment of 2,583 new freshmen and transfer students for fall coupled with enrollment from spring, CSUSM added almost 3,400 new students in one year. Overall, the University has experienced a 30 percent enrollment growth rate since 2004.In addition to the headcount milestone, CSUSM saw an increase in the University’s full-time-equivalent (FTE) enrollment, which is used by the state to determine funding levels for the CSU. This fall, CSUSM’s resident full-time equivalence climbed to 8,180 – an 8.5 percent jump in just one year. The University’s record-setting enrollment accompanies significant increase in applications for undergraduate admission. Last fall the campus received over 16,000 applications. Saturday, Oct. 1, marked the beginning of the eight-week priority period for prospective students to apply for fall 2012 admission to the growing campus. The priority application period closes on November 30, 2011. Cal State San Marcos is not accepting applications for new student enrollment for the upcoming spring semester. For more information about applying for admission to Cal State San Marcos, visit www.csumentor.edu or www.csusm.edu/admissions.
