Las Vegas Tragedy - A Message from President Haynes

On Monday morning we woke up to the news of the senseless and tragic shooting at a country music festival in Las Vegas that left at least 59 individuals dead and 500 injured. While facts are still being gathered, we have learned that a handful of CSUSM students and alumni were present at the concert. At this time, we have no knowledge of any students, alumni or employees who were injured or killed.

If you know of anyone in our campus community who attended the festival, please connect with one of our campus resources. For students, contact SOAR at 760-750-SOAR. Faculty may call the Office of Faculty Affairs at 760-750-8362. Managers and staff may call the Office of Human Resources at 760-750-4418.

Should students need emotional support to process this event, Student Health and Counseling Services can be reached at 760-750-4915. The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is also available to employees at 800-367-7474.

Too often we have seen tragedy strike, and this event touches many of us who know people who were directly impacted. On behalf of CSUSM, we send our deepest sympathies and thoughts to all those affected – and we turn our attention to how we can continue to unite and support one another.

We will continue to share information as needed and as it becomes available.

Sincerely,
Karen S. Haynes
President
