Piano Concert by Ching-Ming Cheng

CSUSM welcomes one of its newest faculty members, award-winning pianist Ching-Ming Cheng, to the university stage for a dynamic solo concert on Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. Sponsored by Arts and Lectures, the free community recital will journey from the classical era to modern romanticism.The program will include Maurice Ravel’s Miroirs; Frédéric Chopin's Ballade No. 1 in G minor, Op. 23; Joseph Haydn’s Piano Sonata in C major, No.60 Hob.XVI:50; and Ferruccio Busoni’s Chaconne in D minor.A dedicated performer and educator, Dr. Cheng is an active and internationally renowned pianist, who has an enthusiastic heart for sharing her profession with others. Having started her musical training at the age of five, she was invited to participate in the Second Chinese International Piano Competition in 2009 in New York City, representing Taiwan. She has been featured in various performances both as a soloist and collaborative pianist around the world, including the New World Symphony in Florida, the Taipei Century Symphony and National Symphony Orchestra in Taiwan. Dr. Cheng joined CSUSM in the fall as an assistant professor of music, teaching piano and music theory.Event sponsor, SoCal Pianos -- formerly The Piano Warehouse located in San Marcos -- will be providing the piano for Dr. Cheng’s recital.The concert is free and open to the public.
