Spring Semester Arts Events Showcase Student and Faculty Talents

Several visual and performing arts events spotlighting the talents of CSUSM students and faculty are scheduled during spring semester. Upcoming events include a concert, musical, dance performance and multi-media exhibitions. Unless otherwise noted, events are free and open to the public.

Piano Recital with Dr. Ching-Ming Cheng 
Thursday, Mar. 27 at 7 p.m.
Arts Building Performance Hall, Room 111

Featuring pieces inspired by paintings, including work by Mussorgsky, Rachmaninoff, Messiaen and Debussy, Music Professor Dr. Ching-Ming Cheng’s concert will be a musical and visual delight. Tickets are $5 for CSUSM students, staff and faculty, other students, seniors and active duty military and veterans, and $10 for the general public. Purchase tickets online or at the door.

Seussical the Musical

The mischievous Cat in the Hat joins a cast of beloved Dr. Seuss characters as they bring more than 20 of the author's classic tales to life in this hit Broadway musical. As each story unfolds, backed by a myriad of musical styles, it becomes clear how relevant and profound Seuss's subtle themes are, making this a musical that appeals to all ages. Tickets are $5. OFF-CENTRE: 12th Annual Spring Dance Concert
Thursday, May 1 and Friday, May 2 at 7 p.m.
Arts Building Performance Hall, Room 111

Off-Centre is the annual spring dance concert presented by the dance program. A suggested donation of $3 for students/seniors/active duty military and veterans, $5 general public is welcome. Proceeds will benefit dance studies at CSUSM. Reserve tickets online or at the door.

Student Media Festival
Friday, May 9 at 6:30 p.m.

The CSUSM Student Media Festival brings together hundreds of students, families, faculty, community members and professional media makers in a powerful celebration that presents, celebrates, publicizes and archives the innovative media projects being produced by students at CSUSM.  Students have landed work as a result of their exposure at the festival and have gone onto successful careers in media and media-related fields. Awards and prizes compete in categories which may include: Best Narrative, Best Documentary, Best Social Justice Project, Dean’s Award, Best Personal Memoir, Best Experimental/Performance Work, Best Performance Award and Audience Award

Video in the Community Student Screenings
Tuesday, May 13 at 5:30 p.m.

Video in the Community is a unique course that empowers students to learn about and serve the needs of their community from behind the lens of a camera. Partnering with community organizations, students create videos which help bring awareness to a variety of social issues. This year’s screening will showcase four projects: North County Lifeline’s Life Achievement Center which helps transitioning adults establish financial stability; Mind, Body, Soul Concepts which is an integrated program that improves middle and high school students’ academic performance; PASS AmeriCorps Program which strives to address the issues of attendance and truancy; and Project Walk Spinal Cord Injury Recovery which takes a unique approach to reactivate the nervous system as an alternative to other neuro-recovery methods.
