Students Twirl their Tukwut Towels at Homecoming

Students Twirl their Tukwut Towels at HomecomingFans display their Tukwut Towel at a recent game.Cal State San Marcos hosted its first annual homecoming and tailgate on Saturday, October 10.  The stands were filled with students and alumni cheering as the men's soccer team took on UC Santa Cruz at Mangrum Field.Fans at the game had the chance to purchase a Tukwut Towel to twirl and encourage their team. Based on the popular "Terrible Towel" of the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Tukwut Towel will be sold at the CSUSM University Store and at home games for $5.95. Named after the Luiseño name for Cougar, the campus mascot, the towel will be used at home games to provide intimidation and pressure for the opposing team while creating a more exciting and spirited environment. The Tukwut Towel is a terrific example of students helping students.  Designed by a CSUSM Senior Experience Team, proceeds from sales will go to ACE Scholars Services, a program that supports former foster youth in their efforts to obtain a college education. While other professional football teams and even college teams have similar towels, this is the first time any spirit towel has been used on the CSUSM campus.
