Traffic Advisory for May 20-21: CSUSM to Hold 20th Commencement Ceremonies on Campus

California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) would like to alert community members and motorists that traffic around the university will be congested in the afternoon of Friday, May 20 and all day on Saturday, May 21, due to the university's annual commencement ceremonies.The campus will host three ceremonies on its Mangrum Track and Field, accommodating up to 8,000 guests at each event. The three ceremonies will be held on Friday, May 20 at 3:00 p.m., and Saturday, May 21 at 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. with each ceremony expected to last approximately 2.5 hours.Traffic congestion and backups can be anticipated in the area and surrounding streets, especially along South Twin Oaks Valley Road, the 78 Freeway, Barham Drive, and Craven Road. University Police and the Sheriff's Department will be directing and controlling traffic flow. Motorists should expect traffic delays and if possible avoid driving near the campus that weekend.Increased bicyclist traffic is also expected around the campus on Friday, May 20, as part of the regional Bike to Work Day.
