Workshop Offers Healing Through Art

CSUSM has partnered with the CSU Institute for Palliative Care to present a unique, one-day workshop designed to help participants cope with painful or unresolved emotions caused by difficult life events, such as the death of a loved one, divorce, trauma or illness. Held on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the CSUSM Art Gallery in San Marcos, participants will learn about why and how art heals while engaging in hands-on activities to promote self-awareness, self-expression and physical and emotional wellbeing. Psychologist, Artist and CSUSM Lecturer Colleen Moss will lead the workshop drawing on her personal experience. Moss turned to art after the sudden death of her husband five years ago.  Marilyn Huerta, artist, San Marcos Arts Council president and CSUSM community arts liaison, is the workshop facilitator. Helen McNeal, executive director of the CSU Institute for Palliative Care said, “What a great opportunity it is to have such high caliber artists as Dr. Moss and Marilyn Huerta to help people express themselves artistically while engaging in the healing power of art to brighten their spirit.”Workshop fee is $70 for the public and free to CSUSM students. Supplies are included in the cost. No artistic experience is required.
