CSUSM Recognized with Housing Innovation Award
By Moyosore Ayo-Ogunyemi
Cal State San Marcos has won the 2026 Housing Innovation Award from Circulate’s Momentum Awards for its Black Oak Hall and Kwíila Dining Hall.
CSUSM beat five other nominees, including San Diego Community College District, San Diego State and three private developers.
Black Oak Hall and Kwíila Dining Hall opened in August. The seven-story Black Oak Hall features 555 beds – 390 of which are considered affordable thanks to funding from the Higher Education Student Housing Grant program established by Senate Bill 169. Just steps away, the 10,000-square-foot Kwíila Dining serves a variety of locally sourced foods and allows students to foster connection outside of class.
Circulate Planning & Policy celebrated the winners of the 2026 Momentum Awards on Oct. 23 at NOVA SD in downtown San Diego. The annual awards celebrate leaders and projects advancing safer streets, public transit and sustainable growth across San Diego and California.
