Free Books Available Through Common Read

The goal of the Common Read program through the Cal State San Marcos library is to create a shared experience for students by exposing them to new ideas through associated books and other materials.
Intellectual engagement goals include co-curricular programs bridging academic and student life and interdisciplinary integration across curriculum. Community engagement goals include bringing together the campus community and the surrounding community.
“Stories as Mirrors, Windows & Sliding Doors” is the Common Read theme for the second year in a row.
Students can pick up a free copy of a Common Read book and participate in activities from noon to 12:50 p.m. in front of Kellogg Library on the following dates: Oct. 8, Nov. 5 and Dec. 10.
The five books selected this year are:
- Smoke Gets in Your Eyes and Other Lessons from the Crematory, Caitlin Doughty
- Somewhere we are Human, Reyna Grande and Sonia Guiñansaca
- Feeding Ghosts: A Graphic Memoir, Tessa Hulls
- If Cats Disappeared from the World: A Novel, Genki Kawamura (library's Student Advisory Board selection)
- I Can Write the World, Joshunda Sanders and Charly Palmer
