New Interim Director Appointed for Veterans Services

Sent on behalf of Dr. Geoffrey Gilmore, AVP Student Academic Support Services

I am very excited to share with you the news that Major General Anthony Jackson, USMC (Retired) has accepted an offer to join the Student Affairs team, and the CSUSM community, as Interim Director of Veterans Services. Major General Jackson will begin his new role supporting our militarily affiliated students July 1.

Major General Jackson retired from the United States Marine Corp in January 2012, after more than 36 years of service. During his military career, he had the privilege of command at every rank from Second Lieutenant to Major General. His last assignment before retiring was Commanding General, Marine Corps Installations-West. In that role, he oversaw the operation of six Marine Corps Bases and Stations in California and Arizona. Most recently, he served as the director of California State Parks and Recreation from 2012 to 2014 and continues to serve as a member of the Governor’s Military Council and on the CSUSM Foundation Board.

Major General Jackson has his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from San Jose State University. In May 2011, he was awarded a doctor of Humane Letters (H.C.) from the Trustees of the California State University and San Jose State University.

Please join me in welcoming Major General Jackson to our campus community, where his outstanding combination of experience and education will allow him to provide leadership and stability for the Epstein Family Veterans Center while we engage in a national search for a permanent director.
