Cal/OSHA’s COVID-19 Regulations End Today

Following the end of Cal/OSHA’s COVID-19 regulations today, the requirements for reporting positive cases and notifying exposures in the workplace will cease. As a result, CSUSM will no longer report positive cases, conduct contact tracing, maintain the COVID-19 website or send exposure notifications.

Effective today, individuals who test positive for, have been exposed to or show symptoms of COVID-19 will no longer be required to submit a report.

If you feel unwell with flu- or cold-like symptoms, please stay home, take necessary precautions and seek guidance from a health care provider. Applicable policies and guidelines will be updated based on the latest public health recommendations to ensure the safety of our campus community.

We appreciate your continued cooperation and flexibility throughout this time and thank you for helping us prioritize the health and safety of everyone on campus.

Campuswide Evacuation Drill

A mandatory campuswide building evacuation drill will be held on Feb. 12 at 9 a.m. The drill complies with a California State University policy that requires each campus in the system to conduct a building evacuation drill at least once annually.

On Feb. 12 at 9 a.m., a message will be sent via the emergency notification system to start the evacuation drill. Multiple modalities may be utilized, including desktop alerts, digital signage, library PA, Cougar Central PA and text messages. Your building’s fire alarm also may activate. The drill is expected to last 20-30 minutes. Please evacuate the building, report to the nearest evacuation zone and wait for the “all clear” before re-entering.

Farewell Open House for Steve Ramirez - July 17, 8-10 a.m.

It is with regret that I announce Steve Ramirez will be leaving the university, effective Wednesday, July 18, 2018, to pursue a new adventure. In a career that has spanned over 16 years, Steve has been an invaluable and well-respected member of our Planning, Design and Construction team. His hard work, dedication, and contributions to the campus have been a great asset to the University over the years. Steve’s professionalism and experience will be greatly missed.

During the transition, FDM will consider how best to fill the immediate gap, but we will also use this as an opportunity to analyze our long-term needs. On behalf of CSUSM, I thank Steve for his efforts and wish him much success in his new endeavor.

We will host a farewell open house from 8 to 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 17 at the PD&C Office located next to the USB building. We hope you can stop by to celebrate Steve and share your best wishes for him.

Temporary Hot Water and/or Heating Disruption

Due to a hot water pipe leak, heating and/or hot water is currently out of service to campus buildings. Due to the HHW disruption in service, we may experience minor leaks. Please report any leaks as soon as possible to Facility Services at 760-750-4601.

Greenlight a Vet @CSUSM

Please join the HOPE and Wellness Center with our launch of "Greenlight a Vet" at CSUSM. The “Greenlight a Vet” campaign is spearheaded by Walmart to establish visible national support for our veterans by changing one light to green.

Student Health and Counseling Services (SHCS) brings “Greenlight a Vet” to CSUSM in support of our student veterans and their families. The HOPE and Wellness Center will light our Wellness Patio with green bulbs on November 1 and keep lights glowing through Veterans Day on November 11. Our green patio lights will be on from 5 to 11 p.m. each night to bring awareness to “Greenlight a Vet.”

As supporters of “Greenlight a Vet," we encourage our CSUSM community to change one light to green in a visible location at home or office and keep it glowing every day as a symbol of support and appreciation for our veterans.

Green is the color of hope, renewal and well-being. Let your GREEN light shine!
