CSUSM Announces Fight Song Contest

By Katie Chappell

CSUSM needs lyrics for its first ever fight song, so the University is holding a contest to see who can best capture the Cougar spirit in words. The Fight Song Committee is looking for a song that is spirited, fun and celebrates the unique CSUSM experience.

Anyone can submit lyrics: students, faculty, staff, alumni or community members. Lyrics can be set to one of two optional tunes available for download, which were composed for CSUSM by Matthew Armstrong, the visual and performing arts coordinator at San Marcos Unified School District.

The CSUSM Fight Song Committee, composed of staff and student representatives from across campus, will present the top entries on April 12. The final fight song will be selected by students and alumni through a vote in April and will be debuted at the Grand Opening of The Sports Center on September 1.

The creator of the winning fight song will receive $1,000 worth of gifts and prizes.

View the guidelines for more information. For priority review, submissions are due by March 30.
