Latin@/x Center to Celebrate 5th Anniversary
The Latin@/x Center (LXC) will host a virtual celebration to mark its fifth anniversary at noon on Sept. 17.
“Given the Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) status of the university and the high percentage of Latin@/x identifying students on campus (47%), it is important to provide a spotlight on the history, celebration and forward progress of the LXC,” said Renzo Lara, director of the center.
The anniversary celebration will include a welcome reception with cultural music, campus/student speakers, games and giveaways. Visit the LXC website or check Instagram @csusmlc for information on joining the Zoom event.
Lara said Latin@/x identifying students who participate and engage with LXC programs and services often report having a high sense of belonging, self-efficacy and internal academic motivation levels.
“These are educational factors vital to the academic and personal progression of students,” Lara said. “As such, the LXC is a vital component to their overall collegiate student success goals.”
The anniversary celebration also kicks off Latin@/x Heritage Month. Visit the LXC website for a complete list of upcoming events.
Established in 2015, the LXC provides programming and services that are relevant and responsive to Latin@/x student needs. The center aims to provide a multi-engaging, cultural validating, and educational advocacy space for students and the community at large.
