Library Improvements for Spring Semester

The Cal State San Marcos Library was busy over the break making improvements. While you were away we added more textbooks to our Reserve Collection, made it easier to reserve group study rooms, and got ready to celebrate our new 24/5 Zone. Read on for more details:

Get Textbooks via Course Reserve, CSU+, and Circuit: Before getting your textbooks from somewhere else, check our Course Reserves collection to see if we have the items you need. We have material from over 200 classes that can be accessed online or checked out from the 3rd floor Check Out Desk. Learn more about accessing these materials.

If we don’t have it, request it for free from another library. CSU+ and Circuit are services that allow CSUSM students, faculty, and staff to borrow materials not available at the Library.

24/5 Zone Celebration: Join us on Tuesday, Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. for a semester kick-off celebration in the 24/5 Zone, Kellogg 2nd floor. There’ll be food, music and activities.

Apply for the Library Award: We invite you to apply for the CSUSM Library Award for Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creative Activity. This award, now in its third year, recognizes undergraduate students who demonstrate sophistication and originality in research projects and creative works. Winners receive a $600 cash prize and recognition of their excellent work at an end-of-the-year celebration.

Group Study Rooms: We’ve made it easier to find and reserve a Library group study room. From now on, you can reserve all 5th floor study rooms up to two weeks in advance, and all 2nd and 4th floor study rooms up to 24 hours in advance. Use our simple online reservation system and check out the updated policy for more details on how you can reserve and use Library group study rooms.

Library Sound Levels: The Library is a busy place, so it’s important to know where to go depending on whether you need a quiet place to study or a place where you can work with your group. Starting this semester, you’ll see signs around the building letting you know which floors are “quiet study” (4th and 5th), and which floors are “active study” (2nd and 3rd). You can also grab a free pair of ear plugs at the Check Out Desk or the Media Library Desk if you’re looking for “deep quiet.”

Online payments: All payments for library fines must now be made online. CSUSM campus users can simply log in to their account and pay fines seamlessly.
