Mathematics Alumnus Receives Outstanding Educator Honor

Alumnus Steve Maxey was recently selected by the Greater San Diego Area Mathematics Council for the 2023 Outstanding Mathematics Educator Award in the high school category.

steveRecipients are lauded for dedicating themselves to quality mathematics education and actively supporting participation in conferences and workshops, or being involved in ongoing curricular improvement in mathematics.

Maxey, who earned a master's degree in mathematics at CSUSM and has 19 years of teaching experience, has taught at Great Oak High School in Temecula for the past nine years. At Great Oak, Maxey teaches a variety of courses, including Calculus BC and Introduction to Linear Algebra.

Maxey will receive $250 to go toward his math classroom or professional development, a commemorative plaque, a lifetime GSDMC membership, registration to a future GSDMC conference and seminar, and the invitation to speak at a future GSDMC conference.
