Associate Director, Latin@ Center | Campus Open Forums, May 8, 9 and 10

On behalf of the Associate Director of the Latin@ Center search committee, I am pleased to announce the names of the individuals who will be visiting campus as finalists for the Associate Director for the Latin@ Center position. The candidates brief background information and campus open forum dates and times are provided below.

The search committee values your input regarding the candidates’ qualifications and ability to provide leadership to the Latin@ Center at CSUSM. Please be sure to attend the campus open forums and submit the Confidential Candidate Feedback forms that will be distributed at the forums. These forums are open to all students, faculty and staff.

Abrahan Monzon
Campus Open Forum
Tuesday, May 8, 11 a.m. to 12:00 noon, Markstein Hall 101

Abrahan currently serves as the Assistant Director of the ASI Community Centers at CSUSM, which include the Pride Center and the Gender Equity Center. He has served in this position for the past three years and holds a Masters of Science in Education with a concentration in higher education. Abrahan's experience running multiple centers, has created peer mentoring programs, and built a graduate assistant program at CSUSM from the ground up in partnership with graduate programs at institutions of higher education throughout the San Diego area.

Renzo Lara, Ed.D.
Campus Open Forum
Wednesday, May 9, 11 a.m. to 12 noon, Kellogg Reading Room

Currently, Renzo Lara is serving as the Assistant Director of Student Life and Leadership at San Diego State University and has been serving in the position for the past two years. He oversees all of the student organizations and activities and is also responsible for the Commuter Sophomore Success Program. Dr. Lara has extensive experience working in higher education and the non-profit sector working with Latino communities throughout the San Diego area, bridging the gap from high school to college.

Janet Aracelli Garcia
Campus Open Forum
Thursday, May10, 11 a.m. to 12 noon, Markstein Hall 101

Janet Garcia holds a Master of Social Welfare from UCLA and is a licensed Associate Clinical Social Worker. Currently, Ms. Garcia is employed at the North Inland Mental Health Center where she works as a bilingual mental health clinician with a population that ranges from ages 18-85. Janet is an alum of CSUSM and currently serves Latino populations in Escondido dealing with a wide range of mental health and basic needs issues, such as depression, anxiety, food insecurity, immigration status issues, and many more.
