CSUSM Vice President Named One of Business Women of Year
Cathy Baur, vice president of University Advancement at Cal State San Marcos, has been named one of the San Diego Business Journal’s 2018 Business Women of the Year for her work in overseeing the university’s first comprehensive fundraising campaign.
Baur was one of 25 women honored at the event, which took place Thursday, Dec. 13, at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront.
This marked the 25th year that the San Diego Business Journal has recognized dynamic women business leaders who have contributed significantly to San Diego’s workplaces and communities. The winners will be profiled in a special section of the publication.
Baur has been CSUSM’s vice president of University Advancement since June 2017. She had been serving in the position on an interim basis since the previous November.
In her role, Baur is responsible for division oversight of advancement, communications, alumni engagement, and events and conference services.
Her primary duty over the past two years has been overseeing the completion of Forward Together, a $50 million campaign encompassing the university’s commitment to preparing tomorrow’s leaders, building great communities and solving critical issues.
Baur has worked for CSUSM since December 2008 when she was hired as the university’s associate vice president for communications. In that role, she was responsible for overall campus communications, media relations, publications, marketing and branding, social media, web communications and legislative affairs.
Baur has more than 25 years of experience in public relations, management and communications in both the public and private sectors. She received her bachelor’s in journalism and public relations from Fresno State and her MBA from UC Irvine’s Paul Merage School of Business.
