CSUSM Wins Big at CASE Awards

Cal State San Marcos was a big winner last week at an awards ceremony honoring excellence in the field of advancement for educational institutions. 

CSUSM received 11 awards at a regional conference for the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), a membership association serving educational institutions and the advancement professionals who work on their behalf in alumni relations, communications, development, marketing and allied areas. CSUSM is a member of District VII, which encompasses California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Hawaii, Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands. 

The conference took place last Thursday through Saturday in Anaheim. 

CASE received more than 600 awards entries across 13 categories. With its 11 awards, CSUSM almost tripled its total from last year and captured the most in the 23-campus California State University system. It also tied for third place in District VII with USC, behind only BYU (15) and UC Davis (14).  

“I’m proud of the creative and strategic work our team is doing at Cal State San Marcos,” said Cathy Baur, vice president for University Advancement. “Our team continues to raise the bar. It is an honor to be among the top West Coast universities in this prestigious competition.” 

The Office of Communications won nine of the awards, and Alumni Engagement won two. 

CSUSM won four gold awards, in the following categories:  

  • General Magazines for Steps magazine 

  • Fundraising Targeted Campaign for “How Calling Dibs Eliminated a Funding Gap”  

  • Design: Invitations for “We Go Together” gala invitation 

  • Alumni Relations: Best Use of Social Media for “Alumni Feature Friday” 

The university’s three silver awards were:  

  • Digital Communications (Platinum) for “Marketing a Mascot Makeover” 

  • Design: Editorial Design for “Life with No Destinations” 

  • Design: Specialty Pieces for “The (Origami) Heart of a Cougar” 

And CSUSM’s four bronze awards were:  

  • News Writing for a collection of NewsCenter stories 

  • Video PSA and Commercials for “Stepping Forward” 

  • Digital Communications (Platinum) for “Whatever It Takes” 

  • Fundraising Campaigns for CSUSM Giving Day, “Show Us Your Heart”
