Commencement Rescheduled for May 24-25

By Christine Vaughan and Katie Chappell

CSUSM’s will celebrate the graduation of its Class of 2014 at four Commencement Ceremonies on Saturday, May 24 and Sunday, May 25.

The Commencement Ceremonies which were originally slated to take place on Friday, May 16 and Saturday, May 17, were cancelled due to the wildfires directly impacting the campus and surrounding community. Evacuations, road closures and emergency personnel needs, as well as the ongoing threat to public safety prevented the Commencement Ceremonies from taking place as previously scheduled.

“Rescheduling the ceremonies was only possible when we were able to assess the broad-reaching impact of the wildfires on the campus and our surrounding region,” said President Haynes. “We appreciate your understanding and are so pleased to be able to celebrate this great milestone with our Class of 2014.”

The ceremonies will be held on the University’s Mangrum Track and Field on the following dates and times:

Saturday, May 24, 2014
College of Business Administration, 10:30 a.m.
College of Education, Health and Human Services, 4:30 p.m.

Sunday, May 25, 2014
College of Humanities, Arts, Behavioral and Social Sciences, 9:30 a.m.
College of Science and Mathematics, 3:00 p.m.

For family and friends who are unable to attend their graduate’s ceremony, a live video stream will be available at www.csusm.edu/commencementlive.

Graduates unable to participate in the rescheduled ceremonies can return their cap and gown to the CSUSM University Store for a full refund by Thursday, May 22. After May 27, graduates can pick up a diploma cover and a copy of the official Commencement Program by contacting commencement@csusm.edu

To help address questions from graduates and guests related to the rescheduling of commencement, a Frequently Asked Questions page has been posted online.
