CSUSM to Co-Host Third Annual Better Together: California Teachers Summit

Press Release | By Eric Breier

North County San Diego teachers will gather at California State University San Marcos on Friday, July 28 for the third annual Better Together: California Teachers Summit, a free statewide day of learning and networking that is open to all California PreK-12 teachers, teacher candidates, school administrators and other educators.

The theme for this year is Better Together: NOW More than ever, and will feature Dr. Jill Biden, the wife of former Vice President Joe Biden, as the keynote speaker for the Summit. She will speak at Saint Mary’s College and her remarks will be simulcast to the 34 other sites across the state.

The Summit will also include addresses by education leaders, TED-style EdTalks presented by local teachers, and Edcamp discussions on timely, relevant and resourceful topics. Teachers will walk away with access to new resources and concrete tools that are already working in classrooms across the state.

One of 35 locations across the state, CSUSM invites San Diego-area teachers to an energized day where they can share ideas, learn the latest in a host of cutting-edge innovations, and join a state-wide teacher network and meet new colleagues from a variety of districts in and beyond our county. Running from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the Summit will take place in CSUSM’s USU Ballroom at 333 South Twin Oaks Valley Road in San Marcos.

“Teachers have described past Summits as a powerful day of learning that made them proud of what they do and reminded them what an important difference they make in the lives of their students,” said Leslie Mauerman, a lecturer in CSUSM’s School of Education and the University’s Teachers Summit site lead. “We’re thrilled to invite San Diego-area teachers to our campus to join this growing network of teachers.”

A unique partnership between the Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities, the California State University and New Teacher Center formed to host this free statewide day of learning. Through their strong and distinct networks, the organizers will reach educators at every stage in their development: new and veteran teachers, current teaching students, and alumni. Funding sources, including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Bechtel, Google, The Irvine Foundation, the Schwab Foundation, Boeing and many more, have made this significant teacher movement possible.
