CSUSM Giving Day Kicks off on Giving Tuesday

By Katie Chappell

On Dec. 1, CSUSM will kick off the global effort of Giving Tuesday with CSUSM Giving Day - a day to give back to Cal State San Marcos.

Giving Tuesday, which follows Black Friday and Cyber Monday, kicks off the charitable giving season by celebrating and supporting philanthropic causes around the world. CSUSM is celebrating its own version of #GivingTuesday, with 25 hours of giving for the University's 25th anniversary this year.

Starting at noon, the University will invite supporters—alumni, employees, students, parents, fans and friends—to share what they love about Cal State San Marcos by making a donation to their area of choice.

The campaign has set a goal of 250 gifts and anticipates many of the gifts will come from first-time donors. Throughout the 25-hour campaign, updates will be shared on the University's social media channels and on the CSUSM Giving Day website.

"CSUSM Giving Day is a unique opportunity to connect with our community online," said Sean Briner, who oversees Annual Giving at CSUSM. "This is the first time we are participating in the global effort of Giving Tuesday, and we are excited to raise the reputation of the University and to encourage a new generation of supporters to join us."

The CSUSM community is encouraged to participate in these ways:

  • Give: Make a gift, large or small, to support a favorite cause at the University during the campaign.
  • Share: Share the news of your support on social media, spread the word about #CSUSMGivingDay
  • Thank: Use social media to help us say thank you to friends, family, colleagues and community members who gave a gift to the university on #CSUSMGivingDay.
