Excitement Builds as CSUSM Giving Day Approaches

By Katie Chappell

Buzz is building about the University’s annual day of philanthropy, CSUSM Giving Day, which kicks off at midnight on Tuesday, Nov. 29.

A day to give back to Cal State San Marcos, CSUSM Giving Day will bring together students, parents, alumni, employees and friends of the University celebrating and supporting the causes they are passionate about at CSUSM.

"CSUSM Giving Day is a unique opportunity for our community and a new generation of supporters to connect online and support what they love about the University," said Sean Briner, who oversees Annual Giving at CSUSM. "We are excited to elevate the reputation of Cal State San Marcos and to raise the bar from last year’s Giving Day success.”

Whether supporting mentoring for first-generation students, helping to fund a student-athlete scholarship, bringing cutting-edge lab or classroom equipment or meeting the needs of students struggling with food insecurity, there are dozens of opportunities to make a lasting impact.

A generous $25,000 matching grant from Foundation Board Chair Jack Raymond will provide a one-to-one match on each gift made to any University fund on CSUSM Giving Day, up to $1,000.

An additional matching grant from the David T. & Dorris E. Staples Foundation will accompany any gift made to the Student Food Insecurity Fund, sponsored by Associated Students, Inc. With the additional match, each gift made to this fund will be tripled during CSUSM Giving Day.

Throughout the 24-hour campaign, updates will be shared on the University's social media channels and on the CSUSM Giving Day website. The tag line, “Together, let’s do something big” communicates to supporters that their combined efforts, along with generous matching grants, make a huge impact for the future of CSUSM.

The CSUSM community is encouraged to participate in these ways:

  • Give: Make a gift, large or small, to support a favorite cause, scholarship or college at the University during the campaign.
  • Share: Share the news of your support on social media and spread the word about #CSUSMGivingDay.
  • Thank: Use social media to help us say thank you to friends, family, colleagues and community members who gave a gift to the university on #CSUSMGivingDay.
