CSUSM Presents: Student Production of Big Love

CSUSM Presents: Student Production of Big LoveBeginning Wednesday, April 15, through Sunday, April 19, students at Cal State San Marcos will perform Big Love, loosely adapted from Aeschylus's The Suppliants. The play, unrelated to the HBO series of the same name, is about 50 brides who flee seeking refuge in a villa on the coast of Italy to avoid marrying their 50 cousins. The play, written by Charles Mee, takes the plot of the original Greek play into modern times: in one scene, the grooms ambush the brides by helicopter. While the brides and grooms wait for their wedding day, the characters raise issues of gender politics, love, and domestic violence. This production includes a brief moment of nudity and some profanity."Big Love examines many contemporary aspects of love and marriage," said Marcos Martinez, chair of the Visual and Performing Arts Department, "It is about the transcendent power of love through song, dance, and an unforgettable ending."When:  Wednesday, April 15  8:00 p.m.            Thursday,  April 16   8:00 p.m.            Friday,  April 17   8:00 p.m.            Saturday, April 18  2:00 p.m.            Saturday, April 18  8:00 p.m.            Sunday,  April 19  2:00 p.m.Where:  Performance Hall, Arts Building, Room 111.Tickets: $10 for the general public and $5 for students and seniors.Tickets are available at the door and reservations by calling 760-750-4137.
