CSUSM Ranked Safest University in California

CSUSM has been recognized by StateUniversity.com as the safest four-year university in California in its 2012 Safest Schools report. This is the second year in a row that the campus has earned this distinction.Dominik Mazur, founder of StateUniversity.com, said in a press release, “Student safety and campus crime are sometimes overlooked during the college evaluation process. We believe it is important for students to be aware of crime on campus and in the surrounding community.”The StateUniversity.com 2012 School Safety Ratings are based on campus crime statistics as reported by 450 of the largest U.S. colleges and universities.  Each institution’s safety score, which can range from 0 to 100, is calculated based on the number and type of campus crime reported during the year.  As seen at StateUniversity.com, CSUSM tops all other California universities, ranking in seventh place when community colleges are considered, with an overall score of 95.33. “We are proud to receive this distinction for the second year in a row,” commented CSUSM Chief of Police Robert McManus. “This recognition is not a result of the University Police Department’s efforts alone but is a result of the entire campus community working together. Everyone plays an important part in making this the safest four-year university in California. It is a team effort and the entire campus community should be recognized for their efforts.”CSUSM’s 2012 Annual Disclosure of Campus Security Policies, Campus Crime Statistics and Fire Safety Report can be viewed at http://www.csusm.edu/police/Clery.pdf.
