CSUSM to Celebrate Prestigious All-Steinway School Designation

California State University San Marcos will join a select group of colleges and universities in the world when it receives the prestigious designation of All-Steinway School in a ceremony on Monday, April 9.

The All-Steinway celebration begins at 6 p.m. and includes a presentation of the designation by Steinway representative Robert Snyder and a performance on the University’s new Steinway D Concert Grand piano by Dr. Ching-Ming Cheng, a CSUSM associate professor of music and a renowned classical pianist.

Dr. Cheng is available for media interviews and a demonstration of the Steinway D Concert Grand piano from 3:30-4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4. Please contact Eric Breier at ebreier@csusm.edu for parking and location details if you plan to attend the media session.

The April 9 celebration is free and open to the public, but tickets must be reserved in advance due to space limitations. Tickets can be reserved online. Complimentary parking will be available on Level 6 of CSUSM’s parking structure.

Less than 200 conservatories, colleges and universities hold the All-Steinway School designation, which demonstrates a commitment to excellence by providing students and faculty with the finest equipment possible for the study of music.

To receive the All-Steinway designation an institution must meet certain criteria regarding ownership and maintenance of Steinway and Steinway-designed pianos, including an inventory of at least 10 pianos.

CSUSM’s Steinway piano purchases were made possible through donor support of the Epstein family; Carolyn Funes; Rick and Ann Hein; the Hunter advised fund of the Rancho Santa Fe Foundation; Carol Lazier; and the David T. and Dorris E. Staples Foundation.
