California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) is ranked among the best universities in the nation for veterans by Military Times Edge, a publication for veteran and active-duty military preparing for the next phase of their lives or career. In its Best for Vets: Colleges 2013 report, CSUSM ranked No. 50 out of 68 four-year universities chosen as the best schools for veterans and is the highest ranked public institution in California.CSUSM has the highest percentage of student-veterans per capita of any university in the California State University system. The campus supports its more than 1,100 veteran, active duty personnel or military dependents through the CSUSM Veterans Center, which provides academic support and student services from the application process through graduation.San Diego County is home to the largest concentration of military in the U.S. It is the homeport to over 60 percent of the U.S. Pacific Fleet and over one-third of the combat power of the Marine Corps.
