CSUSM Wins Sixth Annual SANDEE Award

CSUSM Wins Sixth Annual SANDEE AwardCalifornia State University San Marcos (CSUSM) has won the sixth annual San Diego Excellence in Energy (SANDEE) award in the Outstanding Organizational Achievement (outstanding achievements by a business, non-profit, government or institutional organization) category. The objective of the SANDEE Awards is to recognize outstanding organizations, projects and activities that have achieved significant energy savings and/or contributions toward the goals of the San Diego Regional Energy Strategy 2030, through the implementation of energy efficiency, energy conservation, or renewable energy measures. The university was recognized for conducting a comprehensive energy conservation project that reduced consumption by more than 25 percent from its 2007 baseline, saving nearly $600,000 in annual energy costs. Project achievements include:Central plant energy-efficiency retrofit and upgrade to expand cooling capacity by 20 percent.HVAC and controls retrofit of largest buildings on campus.Campus-wide lighting retrofit of both interior and exterior lighting.Low-pressure sodium streetlights replaced with fluorescent lights.The energy conservation project was financed principally through energy savings and utility incentives exceeding $1 million.
