Dear Sea, Love Me Exhibit Now Open

Media Advisory by Whitney Frasier

A collection of woodcuts by artist Julie Goldstein, titled Dear Sea, Love Me will be on display now through Monday, May 23, 2016 at the California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) Kellogg Library. The exhibit area is on the third floor and is free and open to the public during all library hours.

Artist Julie Goldstein draws inspiration from the natural environment, the sea, urban culture and experiences from her travels. In multimedia works on paper and fabric, she mixes lithographic and woodcut printmaking techniques with sewing, embroidery and other traditional “women’s arts.” The result is a hybrid, contemporary style with urban motifs and lively depictions of friends and family.

"My work is inspired by my personal experiences, storytelling and my deep appreciation for the sea,” said Goldstein. “I hope that viewers feel inspired, empowered and encouraged to share their stories and reflect on what is important in their lives.”

There will be an exhibition open house Thursday, March 10, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Library Gallery for Dear Sea, Love Me. Attendees will be able to view the artwork on display, speak individually with the artist and enjoy light refreshments.

Exhibit class visits or guided tours are available upon request. For more information contact the University Library at context@csusm.edu or visit the artist’s website.
