SUBJECT: Dr. Ranjeeta Basu Appointed as Interim Dean, CHABSS

I am very pleased to announce that Dr. Ranjeeta Basu has accepted the position of interim dean of the College of Humanities, Arts, Behavioral and Social Sciences effective Monday, Aug. 29, 2016.

Dr. Basu joined California State University San Marcos in 1994 as an assistant professor of Economics, and earned the rank of full professor in 2010. She has served as chair of the Department of Economics, associate dean for Budget and Operations for the College of Arts and Sciences, and special assistant to the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. Additionally, she has served as a member, or chair, of department, college, academic senate and university committees too numerous to list.

In addition to her leadership abilities, broad experience and strong skillset, Dr. Basu has demonstrated a commitment to shared governance, and is held in high esteem by her colleagues in CHABSS and across the university. I am confident that she will work together with the CHABSS community to maintain and advance the mission and core values of the college while the national recruitment for the permanent dean position continues during this coming academic year. I look forward to working with Ranjeeta this year, and know that she will contribute in many ways to the college, the Academic Affairs leadership team, and the University.

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Basu on her appointment as interim dean.
