Earth Day Concert on the Green

In honor of Earth Day, California State University San Marcos will host its first outdoor lawn-concert event on Thursday, April 21 from 4 to 8 p.m. featuring art exhibits, student performances, and professional musical concerts by Sene Africa and Yale Strom. Sponsored by the university's Arts & Lectures series and Funes Fund, as well as City of San Marcos, the free family-friendly event celebrates the importance of conservation and sustainability.Earth Day festivities kick-off at 4 p.m. and include art exhibits, a unique fashion show sporting garments made from recycled and repurposed items, and an eco-inspired dance and music performance by CSUSM and High Tech High students. Interactive and educational booths, as well as food stations, will also be onsite."It'll be an entertaining and unique Earth Day inspired lawn-concert," said Dr. Karen Schaffman, director of Arts & Lectures at CSUSM. "We're excited to celebrate Earth Day on campus with our community and bring awareness to the fragility and beauty of our planet through music, dance, and the visual arts."The event culminates with two one-hour professional concerts featuring musical performance by West African acoustic trio Sene Africa at 6 p.m., followed by an ensemble led by award-winning artist Yale Strom, fusing unique world beats at 7 p.m.The inaugural lawn-concert event is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic and lawn chair or blanket.
