Extended Learning Building Hosting Open House on April 5

By Bri Phillips

Cal State San Marcos will host an open house to tour the Extended Learning Building from 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5.

The Extended Learning Building (ELB), which opened in 2019, is located in the North City development in San Marcos.

Extended Learning offers a wide range of professional and career-oriented programs for students and community members at all stages of life. Open-house guests are invited to talk to ELB ambassadors about the creative collaborations and teaching methods that are available and tour the interactive learning spaces.

Classrooms and lab spaces for a variety of programs will be open to visitors, including nursing, kinesiology, speech-language pathology, public health, student support services and the Office of Global Education.

Free event parking will be available on the fifth floor of Parking Structure 2, adjacent to the ELB.  Light snacks and refreshments will be available.

“At our open house, we welcome visitors to experience our visionary and collaborative space that supports learning tailored to the unique needs of our students as well as initiatives that enhance the connections between the university and the community,” said Godfrey Gibbison, dean of Extended Learning and Global Programs.

The six-story facility, which has 19 classrooms and lab spaces, is the largest academic building on campus at 135,000 square feet. The ELB was designed with open floor plans to encourage collaboration among students. The building is equipped with technology-rich features such as 4K projectors and mobile instructor stations with touch-screen displays and digital pens for annotation.

“Extended Learning partners with each of the colleges at Cal State San Marcos to provide innovative programs that expand access to higher education at all stages of life and contribute to a flourishing, highly skilled local workforce,” Gibbison said.

As the academic outreach arm of CSUSM, Extended Learning is celebrating 30 years as a premier education resource for individuals in North San Diego and Southwest Riverside counties. Program offerings include undergraduate and graduate degrees, global education, professional certificates, online courses, customized training for businesses and lifelong learning programs.
