Free Health Screenings, Workshops and Information at 11th Annual Because I Care Community Resource Fair, Sat. Oct. 12

On Saturday, Oct. 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the region’s residents are invited to partake in free health screenings—including blood pressure, dental, hearing and balance—as well as attend educational workshops on healthy living at the 11th Annual Because I Care Community Resource Fair. The event, made possible through collaboration between California State University San Marcos (CSUSM), the City of San Marcos and the San Marcos Fire Department, will take place at the San Marcos Senior Center, located at 111 Richmar Ave.

The Because I Care Community Resource Fair is designed to encourage healthy lifestyles for individuals of all ages and includes educational workshops, caregiver support and activities for children. Helen McNeal, executive director of the California State University (CSU) Institute for Palliative Care at CSUSM will be the keynote speaker, providing attendees with information about how health care is changing, how they can take charge of their health care and ensure a high quality of life in the face of serious or chronic illness.

Other event activities include local vendor booths and a prescription drug "take back" box sponsored by the San Diego Sheriff's Department. The San Marcos Fire Department One, located adjacent to the senior center on Mission Ave., will also be offering fingerprinting for kids, tours of the fire station and firefighting demonstrations.

When: Saturday, Oct. 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Where: The San Marcos Senior Center, 111 Richmar Ave.
