CSUSM to Host Parade Honoring Class of 2020

Cal State San Marcos will honor its graduating class of 2020 with a unique and spirited celebration called Graduates on Parade.

The parade will take place on campus on Friday, May 15 starting at 9 a.m.

Graduates are encouraged to decorate their car, wear their cap and gown or spirit gear, and join members of their immediate household in one vehicle to parade around campus in an event that salutes their accomplishments.

CSUSM faculty and staff are invited to line the parade route while maintaining a social distance of at least 6 feet apart. Due to health regulations, all guests must remain in their vehicle for the duration of the parade. No guest viewing will be permitted on the route.

Graduates on Parade does not replace CSUSM commencement, which was scheduled for May 15-16 before being postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The university remains committed to holding a formal commencement ceremony at a later date when it is deemed safe to do so.

CSUSM planned and is hosting Graduates on Parade with the guidance of San Diego County public health officials and regional leaders. Strict social distancing guidelines and protocols will be observed.

The parade entrance will be on Craven Road off Twin Oaks Valley Road. The tentative route will proceed east toward campus, turning right on Palm Canyon Drive, looping through Lot F (the university’s largest student parking lot), circling back down Palm Canyon, and turning right into Craven Circle, where university leadership, including President Ellen Neufeldt, will be waiting to cheer on students.

Members of the media are invited to attend the event, but the parade is closed to the public. Media wishing to attend are urged to RSVP in advance so we can provide important arrival and parking information and take the necessary safety precautions. We also ask that any media in attendance follow social distancing guidelines and wear a mask if outside your vehicle.

Please RSVP to communications specialist Brian Hiro at bhiro@csusm.edu or 760-759-0564.
