In Memoriam: Candie Halstead

This message is to share some sad news regarding the passing of a retired member of the campus community known to many. Candie Halstead passed away on Saturday, Oct. 27 after a brief illness. Candie was a much-beloved member of the campus community since joining us in 1993 when she accepted a position in Curriculum Services. Candie used her background in journalism and her talent as an artist to design our course catalog. After many years in Curriculum Services, she moved to IITS to be a technology trainer, later becoming the lead, then manager of the IITS User Support Services team.

At the IITS Help Desk, she hired, trained and mentored hundreds of student assistants, becoming a positive influence in their lives. Candie seemed to know everyone on campus, and she was an important contributor to campus life and our many successes. Those of us who were fortunate to work with Candie remember her ready laugh and quick wit. She was a bright personality and a joy to know.

Outside of work, Candie had an interesting life. She was an author and an artist. Candie worked as a “secret shopper” and performed as a stand-up comedian. These dry words fail to convey Candie’s vivid and joyful personality. We were lucky to have had her in our lives.

Candie retired in 2016 to be with her family. She is survived by her husband, Jay, and her family in Pennsylvania. Her family is requesting no flowers, but the cards and memories they receive will be shared at a family celebration of Candie’s life, to be held in a few weeks. If you wish to send a card, please address it to:
