IRB Regulation Changes Workshop and Submission Updates

Effective Jan. 21, 2019, the CSUSM Institutional Review Board (IRB) office will implement the revised and updated federal regulations to human subjects research.

To prepare for this transition, we removed application and consent form templates from our website on Nov. 30. New applications and templates will be available to download on Jan. 14. Reviews will resume on Jan. 22.

IMPORTANT: Please wait for the new forms to be available on Jan. 14 if you plan to submit an application after Nov. 30. Old forms cannot be accepted due to compliance issues with updated federal regulations.

Please visit our webpage to learn more about the changes to the federal regulations. We will be hosting workshops in one-hour blocks from noon to 4 p.m. on Jan. 25 in Kellogg 5102 for faculty, staff and students who are interested in learning about the changes to IRB regulations. To RSVP for a workshop, please click here.

The updates to the federal IRB regulations are intended to better protect human subjects involved in research while facilitating valuable research and reducing burden, delay and ambiguity for researchers. While the transition might be inconvenient, the new regulations will significantly improve the review process for everyone. We thank you for your patience and cooperation during this time. If you have any questions, please email irb@csusm.edu or IRB chair Sinem Siyahhan at ssiyahhan@csusm.edu
