'Love Sonia' Film Screening and Discussion

Cal State San Marcos's MediaMakers program, the CHABBS Dean’s Office, and Gender and Sexuality Studies invite you to a screening of the film LOVE SONIA (2018), followed by a panel discussion with the filmmakers and scholars. Inspired by real-life events, Love Sonia is the story of a young girl's journey to rescue her sister from the dangerous world of international sex trafficking. Event is on Tuesday, April 23 at 5:30-8:15 p.m. in ARTS 240. Please be advised that this film contains some intense, dramatized scenes of violence and sex. 

DISCUSSION PANEL: 

  • Alkesh Vaja is an Indo-British screenwriter interested in the fringes of society. 'Love, Sonia' is his first feature film. 
  • David Womark is an American Film Producer, whom with Ang Lee and Gil Netter was nominated for an Academy Award for his work on 'Life Of Pi.' 
  • Austin Choi-Fitzpatrick, PhD, is a writer and professor at the Kroc School of Peace Studies at the University of San Diego. He is the co-editor of the book 'From Human Trafficking to Human Rights.'  
  • Jodie M. Lawston is a professor of Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies at CSUSM and Faculty Director in the Division of Community Engagement.
