Nursing Program Ranked 13th in California

Press Release | By Eric Breier

California State University San Marcos’ nursing program has been ranked 13th in the state by RegisteredNursing.org, which ranked the programs at 131 colleges and universities throughout California by assessing factors that represent how well a program supports students toward licensure and beyond.

“This auspicious recognition is especially appreciated because it comes from our colleagues throughout the state of California,” said Dr. Lorna Kendrick, director of CSUSM’s School of Nursing. “It honors the hard work of our faculty, students and staff.”

CSUSM’s nursing programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. The National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) pass rate of the University’s students was 96 percent in 2016-17 and Kendrick notes it is currently 100 percent. The NCLEX is a standardized exam that each state board of nursing uses to determine whether a candidate is prepared for entry-level nursing practice.

“The honor is quite timely since we currently have a 100 percent NCLEX pass rate as well as a rich array of programs from traditional BSN, accelerated BSN, MSN, and we are beginning discussions to start a DNP program,” Kendrick said. “We are so proud and grateful.”

RegisteredNursing.org works to promote excellence in nursing through enabling future nurses with the tools they need to succeed. The website’s methodology for the rankings included NCLEX-RN exam pass rates. More information about the methodology used for the rankings is available online.
