ALCI Only U.S. Program to Host Queretaro Students

Cal State San Marcos’ American Language and Culture Institute (ALCI) was the lone U.S. program awarded The Queretaro Ambassadors Scholarship, a Mexico-sponsored program that provides 10 scholars from Queretaro the opportunity for a month-long study abroad experience as part of Mexico’s Higher Education Internationalization Strategy.

Ten students arrived at CSUSM on Nov. 16 and depart on Dec. 10. The program also sent students to Canada, Japan and France.

The Queretaro scholars come from the following universities:

  • Universidad Politécnica de Santa Rosa Jáuregui
  • Universidad Tecnológica de San Juan del Rio
  • Universidad Tecnológica de Querétaro
  • Universidad Aeronautica en Queretaro
  • Universidad Politécnica de Querétaro

The program focuses on youth leadership, STEM education, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and intercultural communication skills. Through a variety of workshops, classes and activities, students explore unique STEM projects implemented at CSUSM.

Students gain exposure to successful youth-led community service projects and consider how individual and community practices can better contribute to the health and sustainability of local communities. Throughout the program, students hone their leadership skills, learn about community engagement and citizen participation, and engage in meaningful discussion with CSUSM students. The program also emphasizes development of intercultural communication skills facilitated by cultural presentations, purposeful interactions with American and internationals students, and cultural trips in the San Diego area.

ALCI has provided quality international education programs for more than 25 years and is globally recognized by language schools, universities, ministries of education, governmental bodies, sponsorship agencies, and top educational organizations.

ALCI is hoping to explore further partnerships with Queretaro institutions for future collaborations.
