CSTEM supports SDMAC at Golf Tournament
By Bradi Zapata

The College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (CSTEM) partnered with University Advancement, Student Affairs, and Community Relations & University Engagement to sponsor and support the San Diego Military Advisory Council (SDMAC) Foundation during a fundraiser golf tournament at the Oaks North Executive Golf Course in Rancho Bernardo on Monday, Sept. 19.
The event raised funds to support the advancement of SDMAC and provide resources to keep military members in the San Diego area after they discharge, thus supporting the local economy and providing employment opportunities.
CSUSM had a team of four golfers participate: Jackie Trischman, dean of CSTEM; George Williams, occupational safety, health & environmental specialist; Steve Wagner, co-founder and president of Stone Brewing and chair of the CSUSM Foundation Board; and Al Kern, CSUSM retiree. Trischman recorded the longest drive for women with a 190-yard drive down the middle of the fairway. Williams put a tee shot 12 feet from the hole for the closest-to-the-pin honors out of the field of more than 40 players.
SDMAC is a nonprofit organization that supports, assists and promotes military members and their families in the San Diego area. The organization has filled a vital role in advancing the partnership and communication between the military, elected and appointed officials, and the business community, while simultaneously working to enhance recognition of the military's many economic and social contributions to the area. SDMAC annually funds a scholarship for CSUSM student-veterans who pursue a STEM discipline.
