Homeless Connect Comes to Campus

Partnering with the Alliance for Regional Solutions – a coalition of North County organizations focused on solving community needs – CSUSM will host Homeless Connect on campus on Wednesday, Nov. 16, offering critical resources, referrals and services for hundreds of homeless individuals and families. The one day event serves to connect those who are facing homelessness with area service providers, counselors, available shelter programs, nonperishable food, clothing and various free services including health and dental screenings, legal services and haircuts. More than 200 CSUSM students are registered to volunteer for Homeless Connect as part of the President's Interfaith and Community Service Campus Challenge. Volunteers will assist with intake, childcare, food and donation distributions and student nurses will provide health screenings including blood pressure check-ups and diabetes testing.Several student organizations, campus departments and the Greek community have begun gearing up for the event. Collection drives are being held for needed items such as men’s and women’s gently used outerwear and nonperishable food. Survival kits are also being created, complete with hygiene items, a warm blanket, new socks and first aid supplies. It’s not too late to get involved. Donations can be dropped off up until the end of the day on Tuesday, Nov. 15 at four campus locations: the Office of Community Service Learning, University Village Apartments, The Clarke and the Tukwut Leadership Center.Join the challenge and serve your community.
