Library Service Specialist Among ALA Award Recipients

Library service specialist Rosa Rodriguez was among 250 librarians and library workers across the country selected to receive a bonus sponsored by best-selling author James Patterson.
Recipients had to be members of the American Library Association to be eligible for the $200 bonus.
Rodriguez, a double alumna of CSUSM who earned her bachelor’s in 2013 in social sciences and her master’s in sociological practice in 2015, has been a library staff member since 2016.
“I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the person who nominated me for this award,” Rodriguez said. “Although the nomination was anonymous, I deeply appreciate the time and thought that went into recognizing the work I do here at the CSUSM University Library. Their acknowledgment means a great deal to me.”
The awards were given in celebration of Patterson’s latest nonfiction book, “The Secret Lives of Booksellers & Librarians.” Patterson has given more than $100 million to education and literacy programs over the years.
Award winners were acknowledged at the ALA Annual Conference held in San Diego earlier this summer.
"I am honored to receive this award as it validates my commitment to supporting our students across their educational journeys through library outreach and engagement,” Rodriguez said. “It reaffirms the incredible and lasting impact that libraries can have on the lives of our communities. I am inspired to continue striving for excellence so that students feel welcomed, successful and safe at the library.”
