Social Work Professor Speaking at Summit, Publishes Paper

Cal State San Marcos social work professor Jimmy Young will be speaking at the Network for Social Work Management (NSWM) Forward Thinking Summit, which is Sept. 16-18. The theme of the summit, “Macro Social Work in Action: Integrated Leadership, Policy Impact, and Emerging Innovations,” will bridge theory and practice and provide practical insights.
Young also recently co-authored an open-access publication titled “Social Work on Mars: A Narrative Foresight Analysis.” The paper, co-authored by Jonathan B. Singer, explores how social work might change if people were to live on Mars in the future and how technology and ethics can shape or create stories about the future.
Young, who has been at CSUSM since 2015, received his Ph.D. from Virginia Commonwealth University and has a variety of work experience from nonprofit administration to mental health. His research focuses on comprehending and incorporating new media literacies into social work education.
